the Best Bible Reading Plan
for 2024
26 million people have completely stopped reading the Bible.
This is alarming because research shows that people who don’t engage with the Bible regularly refuse to affirm fundamental theological truths. And we’re not talking about Bible trivia.
Sixty-seven percent of people who are disengaged with the Bible say God is not all-powerful, and eighty-two percent say Jesus was a sinner, just like everyone else.
This is evidence enough that when we’re disengaged from the Bible, we’re bound for error.
The Bible is the trustworthy Spirit-given testimony of the ONE TRUE GOD. If we want to know God, we have to be committed to His book!
The American Bible Society surveyed people across all generations and ethnicities and found that the number one reason people read the Bible is to grow closer to God.
The Gospel of John shows us that Bible engagement gives us the ability to do just that… grow closer to God! Look at this…
John 1:1 NKJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 NKJV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:17 NKJV
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
The Bible shows us a view of God that has only been made available through Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:1–2 NKJV
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
The other reason people read the Bible is to get direction for their life.
This is pretty smart because in 2017, Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health developed something called the HUMAN FLOURISHING INDEX. The purpose of the index is to have better understanding of what increases and decreases a person’s wellbeing.
The index measures:
Happiness and Life Satisfaction
Mental and Physical Health
Meaning and Purpose
Character and Virtue
And Close Social Relationships
Surveys showed that people who regularly read the Bible scored 19 percent higher on the index than those who don’t.
With information like this, it probably makes you wonder why more people aren’t engaged with the Bible. And I’m sure there are some profound spiritual answers we could explore… but I think the main reason is fairly basic…
People think that reading the Bible is hard.
Folks have been telling me their issues with Bible reading for years… Here are just a few…
Number one: THE BIBLE IS BORING.
I’ll be the first to admit that portions of the Bible can seem redundant and go on and on and on.
To help with this, we’ve created a unique reading order that helps to break up the dry portions of scripture with more lively and direct readings. In other words, you won’t be stuck in difficult to comprehend scriptures for months!
Number two: I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE.
A common misconception around Bible reading is that you’re supposed to understand it. Don’t get me wrong, at some point, I’m hoping you’ll understand the Bible… but not before you read it! Reading the Bible is the first step to understanding the Bible.
Number three: I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO READ.
Awesome! That’s exactly why we put a plan together. It tells you exactly what to read every day!
Number four: I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME.
The Bible is a big book, there’s no questioning that. We’ve broken the Bible into fifteen-minute daily readings that go through every word… in one year!
So, what is TEAR UP YOUR BIBLE?
Well, first… it’s better than it sounds!
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “A Bible that's falling apart usually belongs to a person that isn’t.”
Our philosophy is that you should be so active with your Bible that it starts to challenge the structural integrity of the physical book.
In other words… we don’t want you to tear up your bible… we want you to tear up your bible!
In our 2024 plan, you’re gonna read the entire bible one time.
We’ve developed a disruptive yet comprehensive reading pattern that will keep you interested all year long.
The Old Testament, is organized in a loosely chronological order, which maximizes understanding.
This year, we’re doing something we've never done before. We’re offering the plan at different speeds.
You can read the entire Bible in one year, six months, four months, or three months. This will help accommodate those of you who want to read the Bible multiple times!
